READ MORE most times when issues of social injustice pop up in the community. Unfortunately the common church experience among many people is exposure to judgmental glances, boring lectures, impossible rules and unrealistic expectations. In a lot of ways people think the church has dropped the ball. We have let people think that following Jesus is more about Sunday morning than the rest of the week. Imagine the difference the world would see if following Jesus meant total pre-occupation with being Jesus to everyone we come in contact with. Helping hurting people, having a balanced voice in the political arena, leading the charge in preserving the environment, taking care of the poor, providing counseling, and sharing Western wealth with 3rd world communities. What if Sunday morning became less ‘the focus’ of our faith and more a party, reflection, connecting time for people who live church all week long? New Heights is far from where we want to be in this vein, but we’ve started. We believe that part of our mandate in affecting our world in a positive way is regaining credibility with people by showing them how to love, serve, rally, advocate and dream around the disenfranchised in our community. Thailand We sponsor 32 kids directly in Chaing Mai, and shock-teach our young people on short trips to Thailand with the realization that there are places in the world that are desperate. Street Church We work with the poor every Sunday night giving out food and plugging them into social services that help. Other There's so many ways to serve and there's always room for one more... We insist that our community is one where even the most messed up individual is welcome to come and grow with us. We dream of being a church that the community recognizes as a group that is serious about impacting the social needs of people around us and around the world.
